Listening and Doing
James 1:19-25, Key Verses - 22 & 25 by Elder Scott Robinson
Listening
When it's important, as every Word of God is, write it down!
You can't listen very well when you're speaking. Proverbs 17:28 says "Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent and discerning if he holds his tongue."
If you listen to God intently and consider carefully what is being said you will agree with Him. If you don't, you are a fool. Proverbs 20:3 says "...every fool is quick to quarrel!"
Doing
Faith is demonstrated by action. James 2:17 says "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead."
James 1:22 says "Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says!"
The true believer perseveres. James 1:25 says "...the one who peers into the perfect law of liverty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out, he will be blessed in what he does."
So What?
Is James talking to you?
Are you a believer? If not, respond to His invitation NOW!
If you are a believer are you a "should be" Christian? If so, are you truly persevering? If not, what goal or prize is it you hope to achieve?
The apostle Paul said "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrive at my goal, but I Press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. (Phillippians 3:12, NIV)
